You may know that eating whole grains lower your risk of heart disease. But you may not know how little it takes to make a difference. When researchers’ analyzed studies involving nearly 150,000 men and women, they found that people who ate more whole grains – an average of two and a half servings every day – had a 21 percent lower risk of developing heart disease. Have a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast and a sandwich on whole-grain bread for lunch and you’re there – in fact, you’re to the three servings a day experts advocate as a way to cut the risk of other diseases as well.
