The newest way to nip several childhood diseases in the bud: salmon and green beans for the under-6 set. Researchers discovered that youngster who ate vegetables with seed inside, like tomatoes and green bean, were 62 percent less likely to have asthma than their peers; those who ate fish (at least 60 grams a day) were 57 percent less likely to suffer from allergies. These vegetables are great sources of antioxidant, which can decrease or prevent inflammation in the bronchial tubes. The omega-3 fats in many kinds of fish are also anti-inflammatories. The kids should eat no more than six ounce of canned albacore a week (some experts limit tuna intake more), but kids love breaded salmon “fish sticks.”
