Some ways to save at Home!

Sunday, August 24, 2008

  • Fix dripping faucets. A drop per second waste 192 gallons per month! First, try tightening all fitting a quarter to half a turn. No luck? The gaskets or O-rings might be worn out. To check, the faucet will need to be taken apart, so for best results, consult a plumber.
  • Check for toilet leaks. Open the tank and drop in enough food coloring so the water tins. If color slowly appears in the bowl, there’s a leak. Flush dye, then replace worn-out parts or get a pro to do the dirty work for you.
  • Add aerators. Most kitchen and bath faucets can be fitted with aerators, which screws into the faucets opening and mixes air into the water stream for less water output while still maintaining adequate and steady pressure.
  • Water your yard wisely. Be sure sprinklers are placed so you’re not also watering pavement. It’s best to water early in the morning to minimize evaporation and allow plants to absorb moisture before the day heat up.

Fight Allergies with Food

The newest way to nip several childhood diseases in the bud: salmon and green beans for the under-6 set. Researchers discovered that youngster who ate vegetables with seed inside, like tomatoes and green bean, were 62 percent less likely to have asthma than their peers; those who ate fish (at least 60 grams a day) were 57 percent less likely to suffer from allergies. These vegetables are great sources of antioxidant, which can decrease or prevent inflammation in the bronchial tubes. The omega-3 fats in many kinds of fish are also anti-inflammatories. The kids should eat no more than six ounce of canned albacore a week (some experts limit tuna intake more), but kids love breaded salmon “fish sticks.”

stop the creep!

After having your hard work, finally you shed a few pounds. However, the scale inches up again. To stop the creep, give your workout a boost. Recent study shows that people who exercise at high levels just for instance 75 minutes instead of 30, are better at keeping off weight. After 18 months, the extra-active group dropped 26 pounds, on average, while the low-intensity group only lost 1.8. Don't forget to use Orovo as your health supplement. This will make you feel fit and look great at the same time.

My sisters' breakouts!

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

As a teenager, my sister is experiencing hormonal changes which lead to her having pimples. The sad thing is that as of today's acne is starting to pop out in her face. We look for appropriate acne cream that is not too harsh for young skin like hers. She started to lose self-confidence just like my experience before. I don't want her to suffer so no matter how much will it cost me as long as she will have clear skin. I just hope that it will not take long and she will regain her beautiful young skin.

secreat of staying fresh!

  • WASH and dry your hands thoroughly before putting your finger into a product.
  • AVOID reinfection. Stop using all eye makeup if you have an eye infection and lip products if you have a cold sore. The exceptions: Lipsticks, lipliners, and eye pencils, which can be shaved, clean with a knife or sharpener. In fact, just cleaning a tissue won’t suffice.
  • SMELL your mascara when you first purchase it. If you recognize that scent, you’ll know when it goes bad. Expired mascara often takes on a funny, chemical odor.
  • CHOOSE a cotton-tipped swab or disposable sponge to apply makeup to a pimple – and avoid double-dipping. Going back and forth from the product to the affected area with your finger or a sponge can lead to contamination.
  • TRY timestrips, a sticker that remember when a product was first opened and alert you when it’s no longer wise to use it.

doing some research...

Monday, August 18, 2008

My friend recently bought her new car; of course it would only mean new car insurance. She called me to help her sort things out since she had a huge number of insurance firms. We went through each, one by one. We called them and meet a couple of insurance agents to get auto insurance quotes. They give us many points why we should select their company. But, we do some little investigation on our own, just to get the company profile and it’s standing in the market place. After all she doesn’t want her to waste her money. She wants to make sure that she will really get something in emergency cases like car accidents.

We come up with at least three companies after having doing some research. The good thing with these 3 is that they cater almost all insurances from car, home, and health up to life insurance. So, she no longer has to redo the process she just went through. Everything she needs is already available and the best thing of all is that these are prominent insurance companies that have been in service for quite a long time. Now I leave it all up to her. I think I have done my part; it is up to her to decide what to choose. I just hope everything will go smoothly.

Pet Safety Tips!

Saturday, August 16, 2008

  • Never leave your pet in a hot car for any length of time. Some nations have laws against this, and you can be fined.
  • Stop your dog from drinking pool water – chlorine and other chemicals can be harmful. And contrary to their reputation, not all canines are good doggy paddlers; be sure yours is, or protect her from too-deep water.
  • Walk your pet in the morning or evening but not the hot sun, as the pavement could be too hot for your pal’s pads and he may get sunburned.
  • Keep your pet under shade at the beach. If he becomes overheated, he will pant and drool excessively. Bring plenty of water – at least three times what your pet normally drinks) anytime you’re outdoors.
  • Don’t apply bug spray or sunscreen to your animal (unless formulated for pets) – it may make him sick.

Lose Weight without Losing Bone!

Women tend to gain about a pound year during transition to menopause. But trying to lose weight during this time may actually weaken your bones if you don’t do it carefully. This is according to the study which followed 373 menopausal women for five years. Half the women got diet and exercise advises during that period; the other half did not.

After menopause, the major source of estrogens’ in a woman’s body is generated in fat tissue. Hence, loosing fat lowers estrogen levels. The lower estrogen level the more rapid your bone loss.

If you start a diet, take in at least 800 IUs of vitamin D and 1,000 to 1,200 milligrams of calcium daily and do 30 to 60 of weight bearing exercise two or three times a week. Weight lifting may able to counter the effects of weight loss on your bones.

lots of money?

Saturday, August 9, 2008

What will you do if you have lots of money? I mean a lot! Some may say they will invest in a big business and some would say they will stop working and just enjoy life. Well, if I were to have lots of money I would definitely go to Disney World and any place I can think of. I would also shop around and live just like a princess. Of course I am dreaming. When will this dream happen anyway! I can't even buy a single discount Disney World tickets for myself. Sounds ridiculous right? Well, I am having my day dreaming time again. I hope next time I will no longer day dream and will be able to enjoy life.

No benefits for fertility treatments?

There are two common treatments for fertility problems do not work study suggested. The guidelines recommended that the drug clomid and artificial insemination for couples who have trouble conceiving despite no known cause for their infertility. But trials of 580 women in Scotland found the treatments were no better than trying to get pregnant naturally, a report says. There is this third couple who struggle to get pregnant have unexplained infertility. It means, despite a battery of tests, doctors cannot find a reason why they struggle to conceive.
There are options listed by the National Institute of Clinical and Health Excellence (NICE) this include up to six cycles of unstimulated intrauterine insemination - where sperm is inserted directly into the woman's womb - and use of clomid (clomifene citrate), a drug which stimulates the ovaries. These treatments have both been offered for many years because doing nothing is an unpopular choice among patients, right? But until now there has been little rigorous testing of their effectiveness.

friendly talk!

My friend and I were talking about cars. She has been complaining for the soaring prices of car parts. Our tight economy is making everybody's life difficult. My friend also felt this difficulty. She wants to overhaul her old car since she can't buy a new one. Since, I have an idea about used engines I suggest that she should try midwest auto recycling. They specialize in used engines and transmissions and have one of the strongest warranties nationwide. Since these engines are already used, it is already affordable and it won't hurt her wallet. She is not that convenience yet but, I am trying to persuade her.

CellPhones Cause Stress and Sleep Disorders in Teenagers?

We cannot deny the fact that we now live in an age in which many of us, life without a mobile phone would be inconceivable. And we’re not talking about busy professionals here, who – quite understandably – need to keep in touch with their colleagues and clients. In today's world, many teenagers live in a virtual universe, in which face to face communication rarely occurs, and in which friends are made and kept via social networking websites and via mobile phones. This is definitely not good news on any level – emotional, social or psychological. A recent study comes to add to these previously-existing worries.
The research found out that a very frequent use of mobile phones can cause stress and sleep problems in teens, as well as what scientists call a "careless" lifestyle including disrupted sleep, insomnia and frequent energy drink consumption. Teenagers normally have to get a minimum of 9 hours of sleep per night, something that doesn’t occur when mobile phone usage becomes abusive. In fact, scientists say, frequently speaking on the phone and texting their friends makes adolescents even more susceptible to things such as stress and fatigue. As a result, teenagers should be made aware of the risks to which they expose themselves by using their phones too much. Understanding is the first step, while moderation is the next move.

New Samsung's Omnia!

Set your mind as ease guys! As Samsung uncover their latest iPhone 3G fighter, namely the Omnia i900. This will be soon released in a new white color version, according to several rumors appeared on the Web. You might say that this is obviously a move aimed at stealing some of the success the white iPhone 3G has, and you'd probably be right.

Facts on Hypertension

  • Two out of 10 Filipinos suffer from hypertension. Thirty percent of them of them are unaware that they have the condition, because almost half of hypertensive people don’t feel anything.
  • If your blood pressure is 140/90, you may be hypertensive.
  • Women with 31-inch waistlines are at risk of becoming hypertensive. For men, it’s 35 inches.
  • Genes play a small part in determining whether a person is susceptible to the condition. It’s more than interaction of genetic predisposition and lifestyle. If you have the genes but a healthy lifestyle, you may not get it. But if you don’t have the genes and live unhealthy, you can get it.
  • Even children should have their blood pressure checked, especially now that a growing number of adolescents have high BP. If you don’t know what your BP is, have yourself checked, and have the test repeated at least once a year.

think about it!

Thursday, August 7, 2008

Although, some parts of the world would not require motorist to carry insurance while driving their vehicle or car. But, when we think about it, although it sounds expenses, it is necessary to get one. Insurance main purpose is to provide protection against losses acquired due to accidents or fortuitous events and against liability that could bring upon accident. There are still misconceptions on the use and purpose of insurance or mainly being close minded due to bad economic conditions. Come to think of it, the price you will pay will provide assurance and guarantee your claims in unfavorable conditions.

Tight budget and soaring prices of commodities is a big problem for all of us. But, there are several cheap auto insurance policies available to answer this problem. Being economical is a must at this time of crisis. The very reason most insurance companies would sell affordable policies for car, house, life and health insurance. Not only that, they have to create an attractive price to get competitive advantage over the thousands of insurance companies. Sure, insurance sounds like extra expenses for your family but it will also serve as an investment in future damage brought by undesirable events. And, if things turn worse you are assured you will get something that would definitely help.

magazine fanatic!

I am magazine fanatic. I don't collect but, I love to read it instead of the newspaper. I am curious about this Denver Magazine which focuses on the important stories of the city of Denver. The magazine features the city's local business, political and cultural buzz, to profiles of metropolitan movers and shakers taking the capital of Colorado to the next level. It also feature different spas and salons as well as the restaurants of the city. Like any other magazine it also feature's exclusive retail forces of fashion designers, fashion labels and high-end boutiques to satisfy the shopping needs of fashion-forward locals. Sounds great right! Might as well get a copy so I will not to be left behind.

Healthy Grilling

Grilling is one of the joys of the warm season, in fact when the first officially hot weekends settle in, we're more than willing to take it up and fire up the grill in the back yard with more enthusiasm than we'd normally do it. However, grills and barbecues can easily turn into a real horror story for your summer silhouette, not to mention a calorific assault on your arteries and the death of any healthy diet. As a result, have a look at some healthy, heart-friendly tips on grilling and how to make the most of a naturally tasty treat.

First thing to do is make sure that your grill is clean – and it's best not to do this while it's cold. Preheat your grill, and then use a grill brush to clean off any charred debris from the rack. Step two is to remember that food tends to stick even on a clean grill. Oil the hot grill rack with vegetable oil and your meat, fruit or vegetables will cook better and will be easy to transfer onto plates after grilling. Consider what kind of food you're about to cook, and if you're going for shrimp, tofu, or vegetables, best use a grill basket to prevent any food from falling through the grill rack.

Finally, you have to watch the grill carefully and avoid any flare-ups. These happen when fat from the meat drips onto the heat source and promptly catches fire. Remember, grilling is all about indirect exposure to heat – you really don't want flames directly onto your food. Flare-ups also cause a different brand of carcinogenic substances to accumulate on the meat and make the food seem cooked on the outside while the inside has not been processed enough. To avoid this, trim any excess fat and remove the skins from chicken meat, and you'll be safe. Enjoy!

beauty is confidence!

Our face is so valuable that is why I really give time to take good care of it. It is the first thing a person could see before anything else. It would be best to have a clear, oil and pimple free face. If you have blemishes like I do, consider using gadgets that would deliver low-level heat directly to blemishes to destroy acne-causing bacteria such as Zeno. But remember this gadget isn't going to help blackhead and whiteheads. It will help shorten the inflammation of pimples which is very hideous to look at.

Loving your Lingerie!

  1. It is the best wash lingerie by hand, but when using a washing machine, place them in a mesh-type wash bag – it will prevent precious fabric from losing its shape.
  2. Wash your lingerie separately at all times, using delicate plant-based laundry soap. Regular detergents contain harsh ingredients that could break down soft fabric.
  3. Avoid machine-drying your lingerie. The heat of the dryer can wreak havoc on Lycra, spandex, and elastic material. Instead, lay them out flat to dry and away from direct sunlight so they don’t fade out or get deformed.
  4. Rotate your bras and air them out after a short use. Bras need to be washed after every wear unless damp with sweat, but wearing your bra two days in a row must also be avoided!
  5. Experts say that for bras to fit flawlessly, they must be replaced every six to eight months. However, proper care can prolong their lifespan.

Brighten up a boring lamp

Wednesday, August 6, 2008

You can redo your old lamp to give it a new and fantastic look. What you need is a wallpaper remnant or a single sheet in a pretty print, double-sided tape, newspaper, craft glue, and two lengths of grosgrain ribbon to finish the top and bottom edges of the lamp cover. Starting at the seam, roll the shade along a large piece of newspaper, tracing one edge with pencil, until you've made a full turn plus one inch (to give yourself an overlap to tape the two ends together). Repeat the opposite side and cut your pattern; test it to make sure it fits. Trim the wallpaper to the same size, wrap it around the shade, and neatly tape it into place. Lightly glue ribbon along the edges. This will surely brighten the look of your old lamp. Plus, it will help illuminate your digital photo frame with your favorite photographs.

my brother's extra activity

I have a younger brother whose age is 15. He is very energetic when his teacher tells him to do something. I just don't understand as to why. But, at least he listens and willing to do the work. His teacher found him very intelligent and witty, so she invited my brother to participate in extracurricular activities like playing music. Since he is only 15, his teacher asks my mom's consent and agrees with her. It sounds a good idea since he can make use of his extra time in mind stimulating activities. So far, he is so good in playing djembe drums and other drums. I just hope he will continue it and stay away from bad influence friends.
