Little facts about minerals

A mineral is a naturally-formed solid element or compound whose atoms and molecules are arranged together in definite orderly patterns called crystals. Most crystals are invisible to the eye, but some are big enough to be separated from rocks and polished for jewelry. The most beautiful and highly treasured of these crystals are called gems.

Diamond is just a few examples of these precious stones. Some minerals such as limestone and marble are found in large, often visible, quantities in quarries. Quarrying involves using large earth-moving equipment (and sometimes, explosives) to obtain these minerals. It is like using a giant ice pick or a chisel to chip away at a block of ice or wood. The island of Romblon is famous for its marble quarries and marble products.
